Shift Your Focus

We often get caught up in spiritual warfare, thinking our primary mission is to chase darkness. But Jesus showed us a better way: be so full of the Holy Spirit that darkness has no room to stay.
“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” — 2 Corinthians 3:17
You don’t always have to fight the enemy when you’re already filled with the King. When the Holy Ghost moves in, everything not of God has to move out.

The Power of What We Speak
Have you ever noticed that when you talk about someone, they tend to show up? Maybe you mention a friend in conversation and minutes later, you get a text from them. Or you talk about someone from your past, and suddenly their face shows up on your Facebook feed. You know the saying: "Speak of the devil and he shall appear." It's meant to be a joke, but there's something spiritual happening in that idea.
In the same way that speaking someone’s name seems to bring them near, our words have power—especially in the spiritual realm. What we choose to focus on, speak about, and dwell on invites certain presences into our lives. So, here's the question:
Are we speaking more about the devil and his works than we are about God and His power?

The Enemy Doesn’t Deserve the Mic
Too often we spend our energy rebuking, binding, casting, calling out darkness, and naming the devil in our prayers and conversations. Now, spiritual warfare is real don’t get me wrong, but the Bible doesn't tell us to constantly acknowledge the devil’s presence.
What does the Bible say?
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)
It doesn't say fight with him. It doesn't say entertain conversations about him. It doesn’t say obsess over what he’s doing. It says: resist—that’s a posture of turning away, ignoring, denying him power. Some of us are doing more invoking than resisting.
When you constantly name the devil, you give him space to operate. You allow fear to grow, anxiety to settle in, and confusion to cloud your mind. But when you speak the name of Jesus, you invite the Prince of Peace into your situation.

Shift the Focus — Speak of God and He Will Appear
What if we flipped that old idiom?
"Speak of the Lord, and He shall appear."
Let’s be clear: God doesn’t need an invitation to be present, but He honors hunger. When you speak His name, you stir your own faith, you activate the atmosphere, and you align yourself with heaven.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)
“The Lord inhabits the praises of His people.” (Psalm 22:3)
When we speak about God—His goodness, His faithfulness, His power—we are not just doing religious talk. We are making room for Him to move.
• Talk about His love — and watch peace fill the room.
• Talk about His healing — and watch hope rise in someone’s heart.
• Talk about His grace — and watch shame start to break.
• Talk about His mercy — and watch chains fall off.
You don’t have to keep saying, “Devil, get out!” Just start saying, “God, come in.”
Light doesn’t have to fight darkness. It just has to show up.

Watch What You’re Speaking
We must become more conscious of what we’re putting into the air. Proverbs says:
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Are we speaking life or speaking fear?
Are we lifting up the name of Jesus, or are we amplifying the works of the enemy?
When we keep talking about how much the devil is attacking, how bad things are, how oppressed we feel—we are unintentionally magnifying the enemy. Instead, let’s magnify the Lord.
“Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” (Psalm 34:3)
Worship isn't just for Sundays. Speaking the name of God is warfare. Talking about Jesus invites His power into your life. Remember, God responds to faith, not fear.

Put God Back in the Center
Let us walk away from today with this truth:
Stop giving the enemy airtime. Start giving God your attention.
If you're dealing with fear — speak peace.
If you're dealing with temptation — speak deliverance.
If you're feeling overwhelmed — speak the name of Jesus.
“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” (Philippians 2:10)
“There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
Stop calling the devil’s name.
Start calling on the name above every name — Jesus.

If today you’ve been caught up in fear, frustration, or you’ve given too much attention to the enemy, this is your chance to flip the script. Speak the name of Jesus over your situation, over your mind, over your home. Let His name be the loudest thing in your life.
And if you’ve never given your life to Christ, speak His name today and He will meet you where you are. All who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
