Building Altars, Not Platforms

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." — Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

Last night, I was sitting there typing away. It wasn’t anything fancy—just something God put on my heart. But as I was typing, that little voice crept in:
"Why do you even bother posting this? No one is going to read this anyway."

And I almost didn’t post it.

Not because I didn’t believe in what I was writing—but because discouragement is sneaky like that. It tries to plant little lies in the soil of your obedience. It tries to convince you that if no one applauds, it must not be worth doing.
It made me second-guess whether this assignment, this quiet obedience, was even worth the effort.

But this morning… God answered.

A sweet young lady sent me a message:
"I love your status. Keep them coming."

And just like that God used her. He used her to shut down that whisper of discouragement. He used her to remind me that I’m not doing this for attention. I’m doing this for obedience.

Y’all—she had no idea what that did to me. It wasn’t just a compliment. It was confirmation. It was as if God tapped her on the shoulder and said, “Go tell her she’s doing exactly what I called her to do.”

I’ve been sitting with that moment ever since.

And here’s the truth that came out of it:

God called me to build an altar, not a platform.
Platforms are built for people.
Altars are built for God.
A platform is about being seen.
An altar is about surrender.

We live in a world that celebrates platforms.
We measure value in likes, shares, followers, and influence.
But heaven doesn’t measure the same way.

In the Old Testament, whenever God moved, His people would build altars. Not for attention. Not for clout. But to remember. To mark a moment of encounter. A place where heaven touched earth. Places where they had met God, heard Him, obeyed Him, received from Him. A place where they said, “God met me here.”
That’s what I want my life to be. That’s what I want my words to be.

Not flashy, but faithful.
Not viral, but holy.
Not liked by thousands but pleasing to the One who called me.

Let’s be honest, sometimes we crave the platform because we’re hungry for validation. We want to know we’re making a difference. We want to feel like it’s working. But the altar says, even if nobody claps, I’ll still show up and give Him glory.
Because that’s what this is all about. Worship. Surrender.
Not influence. Not followers. Just faithfulness.

You know what you don’t see a lot of in Scripture? Platforms.
Because God isn’t concerned with how high you’re standing—He’s concerned with how low you’re bowing.

Let me say that again for the ones in the back:
God isn’t asking you to be seen. He’s asking you to be surrendered.

That young woman’s message reminded me that God sees even when it feels like no one else does.
And maybe that post was never meant to reach thousands.
Maybe it was meant to reach one.

And maybe… that one was me.
Sometimes the words we release for others are actually God’s way of ministering to us. That post I almost didn’t share? It ended up encouraging someone, but it also came back around to remind me why I started. It reminded me of the call. It reminded me that obedience always matters, even when it feels small.

Because when you're building an altar, you're not just offering something to God—you're also creating a place to meet with Him.
And that’s exactly what He did. He met me there.

So here I am again today—posting, praying, praising—not to build a platform, but to lay down another brick on the altar.

Today, I declare this space to be my altar.
Not a performance.
Not a stage.
But a place of surrender.
A place where I come closer to the Father.
Where I lay down my doubts, my discouragement, and even my desire to be seen.

This is my offering.
My obedience.
My sacrifice.
No chiseled stones, just the solid Rock on which I stand!

I’m not writing to be viral. I’m writing to be vesselled.
I’m not here to impress. I’m here to express what God has done and is doing in me.

I may never know how far these words go, but I know where they come from: a heart that’s after His.

So, if you're reading this—welcome to my altar.
Let’s meet Him here together.

Because obedience is never wasted. And neither is your offering.

Today, do one faithful thing - without announcing it, without waiting for likes, without needing validation. Just build an altar.

Let heaven record it, even if no one else sees it.
Or even if there’s just one.
P.S. Thanks Cassie 😊

  • Genesis 12:7 — “Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said… So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.”
  • Romans 12:1 — “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
  • Proverbs 3:6 — “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve wanted the spotlight more than I wanted Your presence. Forgive me when I measure my worth by applause instead of obedience. Remind me that every post, every prayer, every step of faith done in quiet surrender is seen by You. Let my life be an altar, not a platform. Help me to lay down my pride, my insecurities, and even my need to be understood. I only want to be faithful. I only want to please You. Amen.

Journal with me:
  1. Have you ever felt discouraged in your calling because it seemed like no one was paying attention? How did you respond?
  2. Where have you been tempted to chase platform over presence?
  3. Write down a moment in your life when you knew God was calling you to something small but meaningful. How did you obey?
  4. What is one thing you can do today to offer your obedience quietly, just for Him?
  5. What does building an altar look like in your life right now?
